getting back into the game

I recently have been granted the wonderful opportunity to work closely with my photography professor. Ive been  lucky enough to be  invited to work with her experimental class and I cant wait. Here is a print i did of a photo from the shoot I did with Rayleen a couple weeks ago

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

. I didn’t like the print on its own so I tried writing on it and i really like the effect of text / handrawn texture on a photo. Thoughts?

Its been a while.

Today I developed my first roll in over 2 years. It took me 3 hours to load the film into the developing reel, and even so the film stuck together and i lost about 10 images. but im happy they at least came out.I really miss working in the darkroom. Having been on campus made me really want to finish. Id love to visit UGA’s facilities and hopefully attend.Although my schools facilities are humble they are still so wonderful to work in because of the freedom and availability. And im not taking that for granted, but id really like to take higher level photo classes that aren’t available at my school.I also photographed these wild mushrooms outside of my house. I just love how summer is having its last hurrah’s here. Tonight i will be finishing up my zine to print over the weekend and mail off to RVA just in time.

last minute photo shoot

I just recently started being my Professors assistant to her intro class. She asked me to photograph a roll of film in 2 days. So i instantly thought it would be fun to dress darling friend Rayleen up in vintage style. Not only am i luckily enough to have a gorgeous friend but one that lives int he country too. Here are some shots i took with my digital camera. Tomorrow ill be developing my 36 exposure which i haven’t done in over 2 years .wish me luck.

ps. keep an eye out for a post of  my contact sheet of the film photos.

M.I.A

My wonderful readers. Im sorry ive been gone for what seems like forever now. I could give you hundreds of excuses all of which are valid but i love you guys and I wont do you like that. So ill pick one and stick with it. Ive been working on a zine for the Richmond zine fest.Im not sure if you guys have the same problem I do but Its really hard for me to finish projects that I start. And the point of the zine is about becoming creative even when you don’t want to and how to deal with all the insecurities that might occur. I have made 2 pages out of the 10, and now its crunch time. Along the way I have somehow found things that are more “important” to do  such as reorganizing my storage space, redoing my closet, going dancing, baking, and reading the most current issue of O magazine. So my darling readers im sorry ive put you at the bottom of the list, but its just hard to battle your own mind and general crazy. So I promise after October 8 ill be back and better then ever. Ill have posts with tips that ive learned over the months that have helped me such as relationship advice, creativity advice, how to start and art fair ,book recommendations, vintage hair styles ,and a guide on Savannah.Thank you for not giving up on me.

-Ely

My plans for Fall

Sadly the school system has gotten me again. I am unable to afford the cost of tuition this semester so I will be holding off until spring 2012. This time though im not going to just waste time. I am going to “home school” myself in old photographic techniques to keep moving forward with my project about the South. I am still unsure what I really want to do with it but I know the look and feel im going for . About a year ago  I saw some beautiful work by Sally Mann in The Virginia Museum of Art. Her Collodian wet plate process is beautiful and inspiring. I want to learn to use different mediums for photography such as medium format, large format, and working with alternative photographic processes to get haunting images. Ive also considered distressing paper etc. For the rest of the fall id also like to start embroidering, illustrating and crafting something to sell at Kellers Flea Market .Id also like to invite some artists to have a small art fair and see who shows up . All in all it seems like a productive fall right? What are your plans for fall? Any one starting some projects or interested in joining an art fair sometime before the holidays?
